AGI / AMSTERDAM / UNKNOWN LAND / 2007

In 2007, the annual congress of the Alliance Graphique International was held in Amsterdam. At the time, I was working at NLXL with Bob van Dijk - the newest member elected to AGI. Together with Hanneke Minten, we made videos that were used as the opening sequences to the conference in Amsterdam. The wiggly video is made up of sea foam gathered on the shores of the North Sea in Den Haag. It jiggled in such a beautiful way that we couldn't help but capture it by making letterforms out of it. It was disgusting though -- very very slimy but surprisingly easy to move around!? The other video was made of dirt from behind the studio. We just improvised the type on my hands...and with some clever editing, made it work with the themes of AGI / AMSTERDAM / UNKNOWN LAND

The project that Bob van Dijk is presenting is Blinding Earth for Joost Cohensius. I had the pleasure of working on this project with Bob while I was an Artist-in-Residence at his studio, NLXL. The project that Gert Dumbar is presenting is the House Style for the Dutch Police designed by my good friend Joost Roozekrans. Joost is Bob's partner at NLXL. Together with Oscar Smeulders they make up the historic design studio located in The Hague.
